Located inside Michigan State University's Plant Soil and Sciences Building, the Grumet Research Lab is actively working to advance environmental systems by studying plant growth genetics and plant disease resistance, while also pursuing stewardship in their workspace.
Led by Research Technician Sue Hammar with support from Graduate Research Assistant Brooke Comer, the Grumet Lab team has developed a system to divert non-recyclable waste from the landfill through vermicomposting. In recognition of these efforts, they received Gold-level Spartan Green Certification in April 2015.
As a space that is naturally energy-intensive and material-dependent, the Grumet Lab demonstrates leadership in campus sustainability by finding creative solutions to difficult waste problems.
