Today, MSU’s 5,200 acre campus is home to leading research, as well as cutting-edge technologies, award-winning programs and thousands of Spartans working to make a difference every day. It is these visionaries who help MSU remain deeply rooted in its land-grant history, whether through personal actions, student groups, research or academics.

This fall, we’re putting the spotlight on the people who set us apart: advancing the common good with uncommon will.

• Student Greenhouse Project
  The Student Greenhouse Project originated from the closure of the Botany Greenhouse formerly on north campus. The students involved are constructing a biodome on campus, meant to be a transformative natural space where the MSU community can share ideas and grow together. • Bruno Basso's Laboratory in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science
  Bruno Basso’s laboratory in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences uses drones equipped with cameras to identify management zones on cultivated fields and evaluate crop growth. The scalability of this approach will allow farmers to better manage their fields and keep nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil, rather than as runoff to rivers.
• Department of Forestry
  MSU’s Department of Forestry allows students to explore their role in sustaining forests and the ecosystem services they provide, including conservation of biodiversity, wood, clean water and global climate stabilization. Students, faculty and staff in the department partnered with the Greening of Detroit to organize an outreach event at the MacCready Reserve this summer. • Land Grant Goods
  Land Grant Goods is an agricultural products business created and run completely by MSU students, the first of its kind at MSU. They offer local, ethical and sustainable products, including tea, jam, honey and cosmetics. Connect with them on Twitter or Instagram to stay up to date.
• MSU Solar Car Team
  MSU’s Solar Car Team is a student organization dedicated to the research, design, construction and testing of a solar-powered vehicle. Their incredible car has qualified them to race in the American Solar Challenge, representing a triumph in student problem-solving, creativity, teamwork and diplomacy.
• Student Organic Farm
  The Student Organic Farm was started in 1999, and by 2002 was offering the first year-round Community Supported Agriculture program in the state, now serving over 110 weekly shares.
