Michigan State University is hosting one of over 100 webinars across the U.S. and the world, which will explore region-specific solutions to combat climate change over the next 10 years. As part of the Solve Climate by 2030 project led by Bard College, this webinar will highlight how ambitious state and local action can put us on the path to solving climate change by 2030. Hear from experts and state leaders as they share ambitious, but feasible actions, which could be taken to combat climate change in Michigan. This event, addressing SDG13 - Climate Action, is free and open to the public.

Julie Brixie is serving her second term as the Michigan Representative for House District 69. After earning her Master’s degree in crop and soil sciences with a specialization in environmental toxicology, she ran a mobile laboratory, conducting investigations and cleanups of contaminated sites all over Michigan. After serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission in 1998 and 1999, Representative Brixie was elected to the Meridian Township Board, where she served for 18 years – two terms as a Trustee and three terms as Treasurer. As a member of the Meridian Township Board, she helped generate $1.4 billion of sustainable investment and growth in property values while placing 954 acres of ecologically-valuable land into the public trust for permanent preservation. Meridian Township’s Land Preservation Program was the first of its kind in Michigan. In addition, she invested Meridian Township in clean, smart renewable energy, brought curbside recycling to every home and helped pass Ingham County’s farm preservation millage.
Kevin Blaser is part of the Migizi Economic Development Company of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. As Business Growth/Development & Energy Specialist he is responsible for all aspects of energy development for the Tribe. Kevin also is in charge of managing the electricity needs for Tribal operations and the non-Tribal commercial and industrial tenants located within the Tribe’s trust lands. He was instrumental in creating Tribal Ordinance 35 that established a Tribal Electric Authority. The Tribe’s primary driver of economic development strategy is the ability to source low-cost wholesale energy. Kevin works with companies interested in on-shoring their operations or forming joint ventures with the Tribe’s SBA certified 8(a) entity. He is also involved with deal sourcing, due diligence, and strategic analysis of startup and venture capital investments as well as non-gaming mergers and acquisition activities of the Tribe. Prior to working for the Tribe, he co-founded a consulting firm that specialized in business formation, strategy, capital sourcing, and commercialization of intellectual property. Before that Mr. Blaser was the Senior Portfolio Manager for an asset manager in Chicago.
William Lawrence is a movement and community-builder from Lansing, Michigan. He is a co-founder of Sunrise Movement, the youth movement responsible for popularizing the Green New Deal and pushing climate change to the top of the national political agenda. Prior to Sunrise he built the Fossil Fuel Divestment Student Network, and worked with the Momentum training institute. He is a 2008 graduate of East Lansing High School and a member of the MSU Student Housing Cooperative.
