Celebrate the 150th Arbor Day with Beal Botanical Garden and MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities with a tree planting and free tree giveaway of trees grown from seeds collected on campus.

MSU Science Festival

All of April

The tenth annual MSU Science Festival takes place throughout the month of April. With more than 50 statewide partners and 70 MSU partners, there is still so much to see – talks with experts, hands-on activities, virtual tours, and citizen science activities to explore on your own. SciFest celebrates the many ways science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (the STEAM disciplines) touch our everyday lives and shape our future. All events are free and open to the public.

Spartan Upcycle Friday: Nature Speaks

April 8, 1-3 pm @ Education Center, Surplus Store and Recycling Center

Come out to the Surplus Store and Recycling Center (SSRC) for a relaxing afternoon of using creativity to honor the Earth. Contribute to a group upcycled art project while reflecting on how nature speaks to you. Hosted by MSU Sustainability and Spartan Upcycle. Registration required.

Behind-the-Scenes: MSU Recycling & "Re-Earth" Tour 

April 8, 4 pm @ Education Center, Surplus Store and Recycling Center

Join MSU's Office of Sustainability and the MSU Surplus Store & Recycling Center for a behind-the-scenes tour of the campus recycling facility and Grow Green Vermicompost operation. Explore how MSU hand-sorts recyclables with the help of a robot. See and smell how composting works. Meet the Spartan worms that transform campus food scraps into nutrient-rich "black gold" for gardens, farms and houseplants! The tour and talk will encourage you to continue going green and touch briefly on why your efforts matter! This tour is offered as part of the MSU Science Festival. Registration required.

Clothing Repair-a-Thon

April 12, 3-6 pm @ MSU Libraries MakeCentral

Patch those holes in your favorite clothes! Repair your ripped jeans and replace those shirt buttons! Join volunteer menders and Spartan Upcycle to gain hands-on help in the Makerspace with your item. We will have sewing machines, thread, and some fabric. Please bring the clothing you want to repair and any patches, specific colors of thread, or buttons for your project. Mending is a fun way to save money and the environment.​ Registration required.

2 DAY VENTURE (2DV) is a hands-on learning experience designed exclusively for Spartans at Michigan State University, regardless of home college, major, or background. Each event offers unbeatable entrepreneurial education resources & the freedom to explore turning a project or idea into reality — all packed into 36 hours. 2DV encourages students of all majors, skillsets, & experience levels to embrace the entrepreneurial mindset. You don’t have to have a venture idea or project to participate in 2DV! There will be an opportunity prior to the event for you to choose which venture idea or project you like the most & are able to join their team! Registration required.

Upcycled Planters Make & Take Pop-Up

April 22, 3-6 pm @ MSU Libraries MakeCentral

Upcycle a container and grow your own plant! Decoupage your container with colorful paper provided from Spartan Upcycle, the creative reuse branch of the MSU Surplus Store & Recycling Center. Once your container is ready, plant a seed from our very own Seed Library. Materials will be provided.

MSU Solar Race Team Demonstration Day

April 23, 12 - 4 pm @ College of Engineering Courtyard

The past 6 months, the Solar Race Team has been working on building a fully operational Solar Car that we will be taking to competition over the summer. Come out to see the Solar Car in person operate under its own power and hear from students about the various components of the car!
