Pedaling for platinum: Building a bike-friendly community

On May 19, 2016, Michigan State University hosted the Bicycle Friendly America Conference at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. The conference featured a variety of bike experts and covered topics such as bicycle-friendly communities, businesses and universities.

In 2015, the League of American Bicyclists recognized MSU with a silver-level Bicycle Friendly University award, inspiring Gus Gosselin, chair of the MSU Bikes Advisory Committee; and Tim Potter, sustainable transportation manager, to organize this event and share best practices as MSU works to become a platinum-level Bicycle Friendly University.

Key speakers at the conference included Dan Bollman, Infrastructure Planning and Facilities associate vice president; Steve Sanders, alternative transportation manager for the University of Minnesota; and Steve Clark, bike friendly community coach for the League of American Bicyclists.
