Sustainable Spartans brings another pollinator garden to MSU's campus

The newest pollinator garden on MSU's campus is located along the River Trail, near Minskoff Pavilion thanks to a collaboration between the Sustainable Spartans, Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF) Landscape Services and the Office of Sustainability. Sustainable Spartans received $5,000 in funding from IPF for the project and worked alongside a landscape architect within Landscape Services to select the site and design the garden. Despite challenges presented during the pandemic, the club successfully executed this project during the 2020-2021 school year when MSU was fully remote, and was mentored by the Office of Sustainability in project management and team building. The team from Sustainable Spartans helped plant the garden in fall 2021, but their commitment to the garden continues. They plan on helping IPF maintain the garden and are working on educational signage for the site. In addition, they helped raise funds to dedicate a bench overlooking the garden in honor of their beloved advisor, Amy Butler, who passed away in 2022.
