Lifelong Learning

Lifelong Learning

Michigan State University provides free access to educational resources, expertise, and lifelong learning opportunities through Extension, Libraries, Outreach and Engagement, and open-access publishing initiatives. These resources are available to community members regardless of enrollment status and support lifelong learning across a broad range of subjects.

MSU Extension: Free Educational Resources for the Public

The Michigan State University Extension Adult Online Learning Resources portal provides free and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for individuals beyond the university's enrolled student population. The platform offers online educational resources, webinars, self-paced courses, and professional development programs covering agriculture, gardening, food systems, natural resources, community planning, environmental stewardship, financial literacy, and family well-being. As part of its land-grant mission, MSU makes expert-led educational content available to community members, professionals, and local leaders, helping learners acquire new knowledge and skills regardless of location or educational background.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

The MSU Libraries Open Educational Resources (OER) provides free access to textbooks, course modules, videos, assignments, simulations, and other learning materials that can be accessed, reused, and shared by anyone. Through openly licensed educational content, Michigan State University reduces barriers to education and makes university-quality learning materials available to educators, professionals, and independent learners

Open Textbook Publishing

The MSU Libraries Open Textbook Publishing initiative advances access to knowledge by making high-quality educational materials freely available to learners worldwide. Through a growing collection of openly licensed textbooks and learning resources, the platform supports language learning, professional growth, academic study, and personal enrichment while contributing to the broader open education movement.

University Outreach and Engagement

University Outreach and Engagement serves as a gateway between Michigan State University and the broader public, helping communities access university expertise, research, and collaborative learning opportunities. Through partnerships, workshops, public events, and engagement initiatives, the unit fosters knowledge exchange in real-world settings and helps community members build skills and address local challenges through ongoing learning.

MSU Science Festival

The MSU Science Festival is a free, multi-day celebration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics that welcomes lifelong learners of all ages. Hosted through University Outreach and Engagement, the festival provides demonstrations, lectures, discussion panels, tours, exhibits, and hands-on learning activities for the general public. Its mission is to broaden public access to educational opportunities and promote science literacy throughout Michigan, making it a strong example of public-facing lifelong learning programming offered by Michigan State University.PUT YOUR TEXT HERE
